Introduction

The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) is the global body representing pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, founded in 1912. Through its 137 national organisations, academic institutional members and individual members, FIP represent over three million pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists around the world.

FIP is a non-governmental organisation that has been in official relations with the World Health Organization since 1948. Through the partnerships and the extensive global pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences network, FIP works to support the development of the pharmacy profession, through practice and emerging scientific innovations, in order to meet the world’s health care needs and expectations

The Military and Emergency Pharmacy Section (MEPS) is one of FIP's smallest sections and one of its most specialised ones. Military Pharmacy is now largely recognised separately from community and hospital pharmacy. Military and Emergency pharmacists in the field practice pharmacy in somewhat more arduous and demanding conditions than most civilian colleagues. Military Medical Services often work together with International Relief Organizations in humanitarian aid situations. The logistics management of many of these NGO's is manned by pharmacists - emergency pharmacists. The aim of the Section is to establish close co-operation between Military Pharmaceutical Services and other appropriate organisations of different countries. The members have as their mission the study of all problems relating to Military and Emergency Pharmacy on an international basis, including pharmacologistics.

I have been a member of FIP-MEPS since 2003 when the Congress was held in Sydney.  Since then I have missed three Congresses (Cairo, Basel and Hyderabad).  I was elected Vice-president in Lisbon 2010, and re-elected in Bangkok 2014.
